Alicia Albert's Blog
I love Australia!
Hi!
I am Alicia Albert! And I have been so lucky to win the Study & Play in Byron Bay prize package! Also, I am currently attending Southern Cross University in Lismore, Australia.
I have gotten to see many great things so far since I arrived in February, and have a lot more trips left for May! I am really excited about everything!
I got to go to Currumbin Wildlife Sancuary one of the first weeks I arrived. There I got to see all different wildlife related to Australia! I finally got to see a real live kangaroo, and got to hold a koala bear! I learned all about snakes, Tasmanian Devils, Flying Kangaroos, and so much more. It was really great getting to learn about Australian animals and getting to see them close up! Overall I thought this wildlife sancuary was a great learning opportunity, and a good way to be introduced to Australian wildlife.
Another weekend I went to the Quicksilver Pro Surf Tour in Coolangatta. This was a nice weekend to watch a sport I have never seen before- certainly not professional and live! We watched boys and girls surf, laid on the beach, and got to walk around downtown Coolangatta. This is really a gorgeous beach town.
As far as beaches, I have been going to a few different ones! Byron Bay is definately the most gorgeous, and my favorite one to go too! I cannot wait to use my 7-day stay there to really get to explore the city! I plan to take a surf lesson while I am there, and go snorkeling. Other great beaches in the area are Tweeds Head, Flat Rock, and Ballina. I love going to all the different beaches in the area, they are all so gorgeous and relaxing.
For school, we went on a field trip to Nimbin. This little town is like something I had never experienced before! It is the alternative capital of Australia, and once you see it you can understand why! The streets are full of color, rainbows and so much more. Definately a different lifestyle in Nimbin!
Brisbane is an amazing city too. I stayed there for a night before traveling to New Zealand. It is huge, gorgeous and bustling. I definately hope to get to walk around there a bit more before I leave! The downtown is fun to walk around and see all the shops, and it is right on the water, which is also a nice little walk!
Like I said before, I have much more travelling ahead! I will be seeing Fraser Island, Surfers Paradise, Cairns, the Whitsundays, and Sydney! Plus I am going to be staying and exploring Byron Bay! So much left to do! So I will have plenty of updates to come!
Just got back from Fraser Island! So so beautiful! We drove on the beach which I thought was so cool. There are no roads- it is all just driving along the beach! I did a two day, one night tour and I am so happy I did. We got to see Lake Birrabeen which is crystal clear. I was amazed at how white the sand was, and how beautiful and blue the water is. We did a rainforest walk, got to see the ship wreck, wild dingo's, the deepest lake on Fraser and much more! Definately worth the visit!!
Next up! Cairn's and the Whitsunday Islands!
